ABOUT THE DIVISION

At present, the Asia Pacific Divison is manned by four staff members (Director as the Head of the division, Deputy Director and two Desk Officers) to progress the objectives of the division and to ensure that current diplomatic relations are strengthened as well as establishing new diplomatic relations for the benefit of Kiribati as a whole.

Major role and functions
  • Assist in developing the Strategic Management of the Division
  • Develops and maintains foreign policy objectives relating to countries and organization within the Asia Pacific Region;
  • Monitors and advocate Government’s Foreign Economic Policy
  • Prepare briefing, policy advisory papers and draft statements on issues related to divisional and represent the Ministry at national regional or international meetings.

To meet the objectives of the Republic of Kiribati under the Kiribati Development Plan and to uphold the mission and vision of the Ministry Policy, the Asia Pacific Divison was established to oversee the current affairs to the Asia and Pacific region. To accomplish this, the Division is simply driven by their objective known as “CONNECTERS”.

CONNECTERS simply mean to Create Opportunities & Network through Negotiations to Establish Close Ties and Ensure (Diplomatic) Relations are Strengthened.

Japan, Republic of Korea, People’s Republic of China, Malaysia, Bangladesh, India, Maldives, Singapore, Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Mongolia, Vietnam, Brunei Darussalam and Pakistan
