MEIG Scholarship Programme 2020-2021, Switzerland

The Masters programme in Advanced Studies in European and International Governance at the University of Geneva in Switzerland is now open. http://www.meig.ch

The MEIG programme aims to transfer knowledge about European and international governance in light of todays emerging international challenges and security threats to international peace. The programme is also a great opportunity in providing professional and essential leadership skills.

Interested applicants are advised to complete and sign the scholarship and financial aid application form, kindly noting the deadline 25 December 2019. Please note that the date of submission may also be taken into account during assessment of application forms, therefore application forms need to be submitted as soon as possible.

CALL FOR EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST TO PARTICIPATE IN THE 2020 SMALLER ISLAND STATES ATTACHMENT PROGRAMME AT THE PACIFIC ISLANDS FORUM SECRETARIAT

In accordance with the Leaders’ decision at the Special Smaller Island States Leaders Meeting on 24 June 2016 in Palau, for an SIS officials’ Attachment Programme at the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat and further recognition by SIS Leaders in Nauru of the importance of the Attachment Programme as a capacity-building support mechanism, the Secretariat invites Expressions of Interest to participate in the Attachment Programme for 2020.

  1. Please be advised that the first cohort for the 2020 Attachment Programme is expected to commence 1 February 2020 for a duration of six months, with one participant each from two SIS member countries.
  2. In brief, the Forum Secretariat will fund the return travel, accommodation, basic medical expenses, and daily living allowance for the duration of the Attachment Programme for the successful applicants only. The details of entitlements will be provided in a Secondment Agreement to be signed between the Forum Secretariat, the successful applicant, the applicant’s employer, and the Forum Official Country Focal Point respectively.
  3. Please note that the selection of candidates will be assessed from the pool of EOIs received by the stipulated deadline, with preference given to those countries that have yet to send a candidate. Members are therefore encouraged to submit a principal applicant and an alternate applicant, following robust national selection processes in order to fully maximize the opportunity provided by this initiative. Unsuccessful applicants for this cohort will not be automatically deferred but will be advised accordingly and also invited to submit EOIs for subsequent cohorts when the next round of invitations are circulated.
  4. To submit an Expression of Interest, kindly complete the attached Registration Form. The Forum Secretariat encourages Members to take into consideration the ‘whole-of-government’ approach to the SIS Strategy when considering candidates for the Attachment Programme.

Serbia Scholarship

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Immigration is pleased to announce that two bursaries are offered to candidates from Kiribati in the academic 2019/2020 year.

The two candidates are to be selected and their applications with preferred Universities, colleges and the subject of studies submitted by the competent authorities of Kiribati through this mission’s email info@serbiamissionun.org.

Nominations open for 2020 Commonwealth Youth Awards

Nominations have opened for the 2020 Commonwealth Youth Awards which will see winners awarded a cash grant to scale-up development work benefiting their communities.
 
The Commonwealth Youth Awards recognize the exemplary work undertaken by young people across the 53 member countries.
 
Regional winners will be invited to an awards ceremony in London on Commonwealth Day 2020.
 
The awards are being delivered in partnership with the Commonwealth Youth Council and the Commonwealth Youth Networks.
 
The awards launch coincides with the Commonwealth Asia Region Senior Officials From Youth Ministries Meeting – an event which will allow participants to assess progress on agreed youth policy priorities and finalize a regional strategy aimed at improving the wellbeing and livelihoods of Commonwealth young people.
 
Launching the awards in Brunei, the Secretary-General said: “The awards celebrate all that we achieve collectively when we empower young people to realize their full potential and exercise their full citizenship, creativity, and innovation.”
 
The award, nominees must be:

  • aged 15 to 29 years;
  • a citizen of a Commonwealth member country;
  • been engaged in development work for more than 12 months – either in a professional or voluntary capacity;
  • have a strong track record of implementing innovative ideas and linking their development work and its impact to one of the 17 SDGs;
  • and have demonstrated an understanding of the importance of youth engagement in key areas of development.

 
Entrants can nominate themselves or be nominated by someone who is not a relative and who can testify of the impact of their work.
 
Sixteen finalists will be shortlisted from four Commonwealth regional categories: Africa and Europe; Asia; the Caribbean and Canada; and the Pacific. A winner will be selected from each region, and one exceptional entrant will be awarded the Commonwealth Young Person of the Year.
 
Last year’s winner, Ms Omowumi Ogunrotim, an activist against gender-based violence from Nigeria said: “This Commonwealth Youth Award is a great honour to me and all those who champion gender equality.
 
“It has re-affirmed the collective responsibility we have to create safe spaces for youth across the Commonwealth and has highlighted efforts we are making to transform from aspiration to reality the right for every girl to be secure and safe and thus making our communities and nations an equitable home for all.”
 
This year’s finalists will receive a trophy, a certificate and cash grants to help them continue their development work. All finalists will be awarded £1,000. Each selected regional winner will receive an additional £2,000. The Commonwealth Young Person of the Year will also receive an additional cash grant of £2,000.

KIRIBATI ESTABLISHES DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS WITH THE KINGDOM OF NORWAY

The Governments of the Republic of Kiribati and the Kingdom of Norway formalised diplomatic relations at a signing ceremony at the Rt. Honorable Dr Sir Tomasi Puapua Convention Centre in Funafuti on Saturday, 17th August 2019.

Signing Ceremony

Kiribati’s Head of State and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, Beretitenti Taneti Maamau and his Norweigian counterpart, Her Excellency Ine Marie Eriksen Søreide, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Norway, signed a joint communiqué establishing diplomatic relations between the two nations.

The signing ceremony was attended by officials of both countries at the margins of the recently concluded 50th Pacific Islands Leaders Meeting in Funafuti, Tuvalu. Beretitenti Maamau and Minister Søreide also held bilateral discussions on areas of mutual interest, with a view to strengthen cooperation and partnership between their peoples and countries.

Small Island States Officer

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Immigration wishes to invite interested applicants for the post of the Smaller Island States Officer (SIS Officer). The position is fully funded by the Pacific Island Forum Secretariat and will be based in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Immigration in Kiribati.
Position Requirements are:

– Bachelor Degree in either International relations, Economics; Development or Public Administration and Management. – 5 or more years of professional experience in government or relevant organization. – An excellent understanding of Smaller Island States development priorities and issues.The position attracts a consultancy fee of USD$25,000 per annum.

Applications must be lodged at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Immigration no later than Monday 13 May 2019.

SCHOLARSHIP FOR MEDICINE STUDIES 2019

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Immigration would like to announce that the Government of Cuba has granted one (1) Scholarships for Medicine Studies to Kiribati for the year 2019.
All application documents (supporting documents) must be certified and submitted to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Immigration by May 30, 2019.

Pacific Islands Forum (PIF) China Scholarship 2019-2020

The Government of the People’s of China has offered twenty (20) scholarship to natioinals of Forum Island Countries under the China – PIFS Scholarship Scheme for the year 2019-2020. Copies of completed applications with all necessary supporting documents should be submitted to the Ministry of Foreign & Immigration in Kiribati, and scanned documents to be sent by email to (dco@mfa.gov.ki) before Thursday 11 April 2019.
